It's now confirmed! Dwayne Johnson will play Doc Savage in Shane Black's film!
Is The Rock close enough to the original character? You decide! I personally like it very much!
Entertainment Weekly reports:
"Dwayne Johnson would have to be a superhero to juggle all of the roles on his slate — and now, he officially is.
Johnson announced on Instagram on Monday that he’ll be playing “the world’s first superhero,” Clark “Doc” Savage, in Shane Black’s upcoming film Doc Savage, for which Black was announced as co-writer and director in 2013. Black recently called Johnson “the guy” for the role in an interview with The Thrillist.
Johnson writes that he is excited to take on the character who inspired Superman, not only because “he is literally the master of everything,” but because he’s a “f—ing hilarious weirdo.”
“After speaking for hours with Shane Black I can see why the creator of Superman took only the best parts of Doc Savage and leaving the ‘weirdo’ part behind. But to us, it’s that ‘weirdo’ part that makes Clark ‘Doc’ Savage dope! Can’t wait to sink my teeth into this one of a kind character.”
Johnson, whose upcoming releases include Baywatch and Disney’s Moana, started production on Fast & Furious 8 this month."
